During their broadcast of the Indiana-Ohio State game Tuesday night, ESPN cameras found a young woman in the crowd holding up a fairly innocuous sign that read "DAN DAKICH DATED MY MOM...seriously" which wouldn't be all that humorous if it didn't turn out to be 100% true. The confirmation that Dakich, the former head coach at Indiana and current ESPN college basketball color analyst, did indeed date this person's mom came from a rather unlikely, but terrifically reliable, source.
Dan Dakich himself.

Matt Joyce of the Tampa Bay Rays hit a walk-off home run to beat the Baltimore Orioles (see video below). But what made this particular game-winning home run even better was the scene in the stands as the fans scrambled for the ball.
As several adults were looking frantically for the ball amongst their feet, off to the right there was a young boy standing there nonchalantly holding up the ball and waiting for people to notice that he had already found the prize. And then a few seconds later, the adults start to notice that the one calm person in the group already has the ball...

Smart move by Mike Tirico to stop Dakich from naming the woman on air, because who knows how she would have reacted to all the unwanted publicity that comes with the revelation that she once dated Dan Dakich. And yet it's hard not to agree with the ESPN commentator that she should embrace it as a "Badge of Honor" like her daughter has, because hooking up with a former Division I coach of Dakich's stature, well, there's no shame in that game.

In my post here yesterday I questioned the value of the phrases "game changing" and "disruptive" for what every startup promises investors and few really offer. Right after posting I caught Sramana Mitra's fun video cartoon here, a quick riff on the similar phrase "paradigm shift."

Prior to the game, several members of the Boston Red Sox were on the field and introduced to the crowd with their World Series trophy. This is also when Belichick was caught joking with Tom Brady and an assitant about how small the Red Sox players are. To see Belichick joke that "they're so little" is quite the departure from the persona he typically puts on display for the public.

Funny Or Die is giving Apple a run for its money.
Introducing the iPhone 5F, a "more accessible model" for aspiring iPhone owners who can't afford the 5S or 5C announced on Tuesday.
Despite rumors that the plastic iPhone would be incredibly affordable, the 5C costs $549 without a carrier contract.
But the thick as a brick iPhone 5F retails for just $24.99. It has an all-new intelligent personal assistant, Ciris - Siri's younger brother - and only enough processing power to run the retro game Snake.

After the game, Manning was asked about his future beyond this season and his answer was both telling and hilarious.
"What's weighing on my mind is how soon I can get a Bud Light in my mouth after this win," said Manning. Not only is the answer funny, but it shows how Manning always has a singular focus.

Toyota released a teaser video Tuesday revealing that The Muppets will star in the auto maker's Super Bowl commercial alongside actor and former Old Spice pitchman Terry Crews.
In the video, Crews pulls over on a desert highway to ask the driver of a painted, broken-down bus whether he or she needs help. The teaser then cuts to a shot of a muppet fiddling with the lock on one of the bus' doors:

Aside from the fun video, I've mentioned Sramana before on this blog and I'm happy to mention her again in this post because the world of startups and entrepreneurship needs to be more aware of her 1M/1M program to help people succeed with startups. Sramana's program, unlike so much of the teaching available for startups, acknowledges the fact that the vast majority of startups make it on their own, bootstrapping, without outside investment. And she tries to deal in that real world, not in the theoretical or academic or high end world in which every startup requires funding by outside investors. The program is named for its goal of helping a million startups get to a million dollars in revenue each.
If you're curious about that, here's a link to the program website, and here's a link to a 30-minute summary on YouTube.
