There a few things to consider when potty training your child or preschooler. Let's discuss the important thing points.

The age of should I start toilet training my child?

Somewhere between 18 and 24 months is a good age. 22 months appears to be the magic number for most. You can start years earlier but your child may not be ready in terms of bowel and urinary control. They also might not have the physical and cognitive skills to take their pants off over time. I've come across children as young as 15 months potty trained but this is rare and training before 22 months can be a setup of to fail.

What are some signs of readiness?

Your toddler can remain dry for any 2 hour stretch and wakes up dry after most naps.
He can pull his pants down, or learn how to undress.
   Has regular predictable bowel motions.
   Understands simple directions.
Can sit still for a few (2-5 ) minutes.
Understands bathroom lingo for example "pee pee" or "poop".
Shows interest in learning and is curious about your bathroom habits or even the potty.

How do I start potty training?

"Pre-train" your child for a few weeks before you start. Teach him about wiping, flushing, etc. Show him what a potty or toilet is, when and how to use it.

Get your child really excited about potty training. Go buy a special potty together. Some rewards, and tell him he's a big boy who won't need the potty.

Possess a reward system ready. Whether it's stickers, treats, or perhaps a special toy that will get your child excited. Whatever it is, get it ready making a big deal about it.

How do I tackle the training process?

Chances are if you have googling this topic, you are looking at starting potty training or else you have already started, and feel kind of lost. You've probably already tried toilet training your child but were unsuccessful often. Many children are a little more difficult to train than the others. They maybe stubborn, defiant, or just simply afraid.

These kind of children need a little little more help and patience with this. I've written a review of the of the largest books/programs. Sometimes obtaining a book or guide is what works for children that require a little bit more assist with toilet training. Good luck, happy training!
